The company

Floating Wind Turbines (FWT) Limited is a Scottish engineering consultancy owned by Rodger Taylor. The company has been formed to develop a cost-efficient floating foundation concept; DTI-F.

DTI-F, the concept

DTI-F is a new, and innovative concept for the construction and installation of floating wind farms for deep waters (90 to >1000m). This technology is a comprehensive solution which involves the construction of the Floating substructure with the turbine tower, nacelle and blades being installed, tested and commissioned at the quayside.

“The ability to construct and install a floating turbine in such a fashion offers the opportunity to reduce costs as compared to the current methods using traditional monolithic spar buoys, TLPs or semisubmersible concepts.”

“Much of the cost savings is realized in reduction of expensive construction materials, costly transportation vessels and, high capacity cranes”.

“Besides to being a more cost effective solution it also facilitates increased safety for those performing the construction and the maintenance. It is also remarkable how this concept can help to create jobs and revitalize decommissioned facilities.”
